This print is a compilation of digital elements and photographs symbolizing the soul of the Grand Ole Opry and its continuance despite the recent flooding of the Grand Ole Opry house.
Having visited Nashville just a short two weeks prior to the massive flooding, I was very emotional about all of the images of devastation I was seeing online, especially the views of the Grand Ole Opry and Opryland Hotel. We had spent considerable time during our visit at those two locations and had made several new friends among the Gaylord Stars, in fact.
Nashville is a wonderful city and her citizens are among the nicest people I have met in all of my travels throughout North America. Working on this piece was good therapy for the emotional upheaval I felt viewing the flooding on TV and hearing and reading about all of the stories...
One year later, our family retuurned to Nashville, and toured the Grand Ole Opry house... it's absolutely stunning now! :-)
As a young girl growing up in northern Indiana, Sandy MacGowan was greatly influenced by her late father, a professional photographer. That influence, coupled with her love of art, would resurface years later after she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts from Indiana University. Sandy spent most of the next ten years as a computer graphics artist, specializing in speaker-support presentations, medical illustration and graphic design. While studying 3D computer graphics and animation in Canada, Sandy met her husband, Brian MacGowan. As another computer graphics artist with extensive training in photography, he has provided her with much insight into the quirks and foibles of computer graphics. While on a career hiatus...
