Why quilt art? Two reasons, mostly... For many years, I have harbored a desire to quilt... but I can't sew worth beans. Instead, I am creating a new artwork series of painted quilts. If you can't sew... paint! ;-)
My second reason is a bit more poignant and extremely personal. I have undertaken a mission to make a difference in this world by helping to eradicate cancer. I have lost loved ones to this horrid disease, and have loved ones currently fighting the battle. When I think of quilts, I think not only of the vast number of steps involved in creating the finished piece, but as well of the love that went into joining each individual piece together to form a whole. I also think of warmth... which can come from love, as well.
I realized that each stitch in a quilt can be symbolic of a step in the fight against cancer, and to help take those steps, I will be donating a percentage of my proceeds from each sale of these quilt paintings to one or more cancer-fighting c...
As a young girl growing up in northern Indiana, Sandy MacGowan was greatly influenced by her late father, a professional photographer. That influence, coupled with her love of art, would resurface years later after she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts from Indiana University. Sandy spent most of the next ten years as a computer graphics artist, specializing in speaker-support presentations, medical illustration and graphic design. While studying 3D computer graphics and animation in Canada, Sandy met her husband, Brian MacGowan. As another computer graphics artist with extensive training in photography, he has provided her with much insight into the quirks and foibles of computer graphics. While on a career hiatus...
